PRODUCT CATALOGUE We are making food packaging circular Packaging for the food to go industry plays a key role in protecting the quality, freshness and shelf life of food products. And it is an essential factor in fighting food waste and minimising unnecessary CO2 emissions. Faerch packaging solutions are designed not only to keep your food products safe and protected, but they are also designed to reduce your environmental footprint. By using material made from up to 100% post-consumer recycled PET, Faerch are able to reduce the need to use virgin materials. And as an integrated recycler, Faerch have sumleeded in creating circularity in PET rigid food packaging. Closing the loop on food trays Because of an underdeveloped European infrastructure, we know that annually, 1.1 million tonnes of rigid PET packaging are either incinerated or sent to landfill. This is a waste of valuable resources - and needs to change. Imagine a system which keeps food to go packaging in the economy and out of the environment. At Faerch, this is not a distant vision. As an industry first, we are actively developing an industry-scale recycling infrastructure that recovers European household PET waste streams to create circularity in rigid food packaging. We do this as an integrated recycler, where our key focus is to deliver solutions with the lowest possible impact on the environment and climate. At our PET recycling facility in the Netherlands, we process pots, tubs and trays (PTT) supplied by sorters and customers from across Europe. We recycle the PET packaging back into food grade material, which we then use to manufacture new food trays across our production sites. This positions us to offer food packaging made with recycled European household PET waste on an industrial scale – and which is fully recyclable into new food grade products. rPET vs Tray rPET Change is happening. Leading brands continue to go for circular solutions with a high content of post-consumer recycled material. However, knowing the source of the recycled material is key. Most of today’s rPET is derived from transparent bottles. As a collective packaging sector, we need to realise that in a circular economy, using bottle material in food packaging should be considered as a legacy input material. Both bottles and trays should stay in their own separate recycling loops, where both material streams are recovered and used to produce new bottles and trays in an endless number of cycles. Evolve by Faerch The Evolve by Faerch concept is a perfect example of European household tray-to-tray recycling which plays a key part in the transformation towards a true circular economy within rigid PET packaging. The concept closes the loop on food trays and ensures that these are made from recycled household post- consumer material which, after use, can be recycled into new mono-material food packaging of the same quality – again and again. The fully circular Evolve by Faerch packaging concept is available for a number of Faerch’s Food to go ranges. 3 120
